(60,731 posts)42. I used to live in Spain before 1975, and that is exactly right.
It helped that Franco had no heirs groomed to follow him, and that King Juan-Carlos had no real royal aspirations.
Spain had had enough of being a fascist relic, and wanted to move on. And so they did.
