In reply to the discussion: I predict the military will remove Trump. [View all]DetroitLegalBeagle
(2,504 posts)85. Former military here
That's never going to happen. The number of people willing to cross that line in the military is vastly outnumbered by those who won't. No general is going to be able to cobble together enough manpower to pull it off. The rightward lean in the military is the highest among senior enlisted and junior officers. NCO's are the backbone of the US military and they lean heavily right. Combat MOS's also lean heavily right. Neither are just going to go along with a military coup. Your chances of pulling off a coup with a bunch of geriatric flag officers and personnel mainly from non-combat units is pretty slim.

GOP will let him be assassinated. JD Vance can take over implementing Project 2025

Since they have no qualms killing innocents to create a head injury for Trump, I predict AF 1 going down in the Atlantic

So you would be fine with a literal complete dictatorship, one that has zero qualms about using military force to crush

You (nor does anyone else) have no idea what is going to happen and what is not going to happen, at this point.

I was only arguing that there are situations where that might be desirable. Unfortunately I don't see that removal

That would not stop the dictatorship (the one in my example). In fact it might hyper-charge it, as all the main players

Military is at least 50% trumpsters. Another 30% will likely follow orders, no matter what.

I don't see a scenario where this could happen now that so many 'loyal to the Constitution' types are going to be purged

This scenario is as likely as any in the chaotic context we find ourselves in. Very fluid. n/t

Probably not, but I would not want to take any trips on Air Farce One either.
