(41,171 posts)Another friend, a Canadian who lives in the states but doesn't follow politics closely, told me her takeaway from the American election was that it was mostly about the trans issue. That people are pissed that women have to compete in sports with transwomen & share locker rooms with them. Also, they're tired of having to be sensitive about pronouns.
I was boggled! This is a good friend of mine!! It took me over a week to craft a response where it didn't sound like I was calling her a moron. So I pointed out that less than 2% of the population identify as trans & that the trans issue is a religious zealot issue so the Trump campaign ran with it & spent 40% of their budget on anti-trans ads the final weeks of their campaign, so if you're tired of hearing about it, look to them. Then I reminded her 50% of the US population are women & we're being denied emergency medical care at ERs & hospitals around the country & that I thought that was a much more urgent issue. OMG, she hadn't heard any of these stories!!
