(8,041 posts)for "just two old folks?" There are many times I'd like to buy cheaper, but to do that it seems you have to buy in bulk... and I've quickly run out of storage room. Downsizing from a 3800 sq foot house to an 1800 sq ft house was bad enough. But add to that bulk purchases of paper towels, etc., it's hard to find space, without putting them in open space like the living room.
Worse, to me, is the fact that meat packages for just me and hubby are priced astronomically to feed just the two of us. We can't afford the bulk packaging for families, let alone the smaller sizes. And I inherited my "don't waste" gene from my Dad (a Depression era kid). I hate wasting food when there are so many out there in want...
Even restaurants are into the act. Hubby and I don't eat out often, but we do "eat in" with carry out. I've made chinese take out last 3-4 nights worth of supper. Sure, it's a great buy, but I do get tired of eating the same thing every night for nearly a week... but I don't want it to go bad and have to throw it out.
Talk about a consumer society!
