I started getting them about two weeks or so after my husband passed away in late October. Also mostly untraceable. Some are hang-up calls. I don't respond as a rule to numbers I don't recognize, but in the month or so after he passed I was getting calls that I didn't recognize but were important. After things calmed down I stopped answering calls from numbers I don't know, and they have slowed but not stopped. It is possible the muskrat is behind some of it and some of it is just people looking for a new widow to try to take advantage of.
I too am careful about where and to whom I give my number to, but there are surely ways the scammers and political scum can hack into phone lists. Hard to hide a death, too, since so many people need notification.
