(1,346 posts)Biden, and then Harris, largely based their campaigns on Trump's unique threat to the Republic. However, most of the exit polls said the American people chose Trump because costs were too high and they either didn't believe (or didn't care) about this...they were just concerned with inflations, etc.
So Schumer's idea is just to hammer on costs when they are sure to go up and the economy craters. He's not planning to raise as much fuss about a lot of the other stuff which didn't seem to animate voters.
I see where he's coming from and it makes some sense in theory. I had a conversation with a buddy who voted for Harris who even thought Democrats were being hysterical about all this stuff. I still don't agree with it given how scared shitless I am about Trump and company turning the FBI into a Gestapo like organization though.
