In reply to the discussion: The real reason they are going after Civil Servants. The reason they ALWAYS go after Civil Servants [View all]FakeNoose
(41,634 posts)29. Before the Civil Service system was created, government jobs used to be handed out
... as rewards or favors to the winning candidates' buddies. They didn't get "paid' to help on the campaign, they got a cushy job as their reward when the candidate got into office. It was called patronage and it was terrible. Those same jobs were given out to the next winner's friends in 4 years, so the jobs were only good while the candidate kept winning re-election. The entire system stank because there were no training programs or job qualifications, just a free paycheck for what amounted to no-show jobs.
Now the Repukes want to destroy the Civil Service system and go back to the old-style patronage jobs.

Yep, no indications of alternative systems to the status quo can be allowed to exist.

They can also replace these people with "loyal" civil servants who will do their bidding.

I'd say that's all very true, but there's an additional sinister element being added now

Also they know civil servants can't really fight back without compromising their political neutrality.

Grover Norquist's dream as articulated years after Raygun set it in motion. "Drown it in the bathtub." I hate Nazis.

The other thing is they also make it harder for the remaining ones to do their job effectively.
