At Wednesday’s rally, a middle-aged white guy spoke, saying it was wonderful to see such a diverse crowd together here in central Maine, and he started naming groups he saw there, waving toward the folks standing around him. Well the crowd was cheering along with him with “young and old and men and women and gay and straight and trans”, but when he got to naming ethnic groups and races there was a slight hesitation, because it, being in Maine, was a very very white crowd, but then (I am paraphrasing) he said “Because I am young and old and a man and woman and gay and straight and trans and Black and White and Native and Asian. You are, too! We all are! And we are all here together to stand up for each other and to fight the fascists together.”

It was a good speech among many that day.
