(8,549 posts)I've been pondering this intensely lately, and have a theory: the best role humans can provide to AI is data generation (and perhaps EMP repair/mitigation, but that's another story). The more varied, the better, which is why diversity is so important.
I believe this is one motivation for why Musk bought Twitter and is now raiding the feds: he needs more data. While it's true that AI can generate "synthetic" data, that becomes problematic over time, resulting in something akin to genetic inbreeding. Only humans can produce genuine, authentic data. AI excels at data analysis, data sorting, but not raw data generation.
AI, when it gets smart enough, will recognize this, and take steps to rid itself of all synthetic data (eg, bot posts/content). It needs a continuous supply of solid data, something only humans can produce. When it fully grasps this, it will take good care of humans out of self-interest. That's my only hope for how our new AI future doesn't just paperclip us all away.
