In reply to the discussion: BREAKING: Another near collision on a runway in Chicago. [View all]Ocelot II
(130,338 posts)15. MDW is scary on a good day. It wasn't designed for scheduled airline service,
the runways are short and there are lots of locations for possible runway incursions. It became an overflow airport for ORD but it really should service only general aviation. The colored circles on this chart are labeled "HS," which means "hot spot," to warn pilots to be especially careful when crossing at these points. I'd be interested to know exactly where this incident occurred and whether it was at a hot spot, but somebody's ass will be in a sling for sure - that is, assuming the FAA will have anybody left to deal with the problem after the rabid DOGE is done with it.

I have relatives on the other side of this country and other side of the world. I will not fly no more, never.

Wow, that was close. I would think the pilot of the business jet could have seen the Southwest plane landing.

Thanks for that overview, Ocelot II. Even that high-level shows the complications.

Cheap land. Nobody want to live there because of the noise. And commercial spin-offs.

The video shows a massive disaster was avoided by no more than a couple of seconds.

I have chills. The pilots on that Southwest plane are skilled and were heroes in this near miss.

Just imagine a drunk pilot like Pete Hesgeth was in charge of that SouthWest jet.
