... who's two years and change shy of 80, and I share your utter contempt for Der Party. My hatred of Republicanism has burned hotter than the surface of the Sun for my entire adult life, but now it's gone supernova.
It takes a certain kind of person to even consider becoming a Republican, and that is a person with whom I will not even shake hands; I haven't had the shots.

Agreed - this is way more than peer pressure. It's more like bribery, blackmail, threats of violence, etc.
