In reply to the discussion: I'm Personally Sick Of The Divisive Posts Calling For So Called 'Blue States' To Secede From The So Caled 'Red States' [View all]The Madcap
(1,677 posts)(other than being a massive constitutional issue) is that there is no real thing such as red and blue states (except maybe Oklahoma
). It's more like a vast range of purple shading. The closest divide I can come up with is urban vs. rural, and even that's not really red vs. blue.
To do something like that peacefully would require the movement of a gigantic proportion of the population (likely about 40% or so) from one side to the other, then the construction of hard borders. I don't see that happening anytime soon. The only alternative that would "relocate" everyone on the wrong side of the border would be violence and mass death, which would be utterly tragic for both sides.
I'm actually more in favor of state combination to reduce the number of states to something more manageable (more like Canadian provinces), but with the way our House and Senate work, I don't see that ever happening.
