(68,874 posts)I don't mean this as an attack on Democrats in red states. This is not one of those "all the people in TX can go..." I know that Democrats in red states are just as good or better than Democrats in blue states.
But we lost. This is the election that changed everything. A lot of good things are going away forever. And I have no confidence that we'll spring back after four years. Our Constitution gives unequal power to former slave states. We're always fighting an uphill battle against the Electoral College and Senate. It's crazy that a sparsely populated state like Arkansas has just as much power in the Senate as CA or NY. And now many states have undemocratically gerrymandered districts.
I live in North Carolina, home to wonderful research universities. Trump is destroying them. Literally. Not an exaggeration. I don't know what the economy will look like in four years. Our Republican legislature literally stole numerous Democratic seats from Congress with a disgracefully gerrymandered map. The SCOTUS is no help. Democrats would have a majority in the U.S. House if just NC alone had fair district maps. How many other states are doing this now? It's getting worse, and too many people are going along with the loss of democracy.
Secession and creating a new country probably won't happen but we have to face the fact that things are never going to be the same. We will need radical solutions in order to survive.
