(68,876 posts)Full disclosure: my state is not one of them.
It's an impressive set of states, though. CA, OR, WA. CO and NM. IL and MN. VA, MD, and DC. NJ, NY and every state to its northeast.
We'd have borders with Canada and Mexico, shipping ports, amazing research institutions, agricultural powerhouses, and high tech industries. We'd be allowed to protect beautiful national parks and wilderness areas. We could write a better Constitution and restore democracy.
We'd lose a lot of military bases (which Trump will probably close anyway) and most of our gas and oil. NM is ideal for solar farming, though, and our affluent states could fund green energy initiatives. They'd probably sell oil to us anyway because they'll be desperate for cash.
They'd get TX, FL, OH and some other big states, but they'd also get a lot of desperately poor states, and under TrumpPutin they will get unhealthier and poorer. Faced with supporting those states, I suspect a number of red states would join us sooner or later.
Sure, it's a pipe dream but maybe it's time to dream bigger.
