Gavin Newsom breaks with Democrats on trans athletes in sports

97. The sports issue is the problem.

Americans revere men's sports. Women fought long and hard to be allowed to play sports at all, and thanks to Title IX (which most Republicans also hate), they finally got equal funding and the opportunity to play a wide range of sponsored sports.

I can understand why people don't like the idea of some individuals having an unfair advantage on women's competitions.

I think there are ways to handle this that protect everybody's rights, and I think those solutions were in process.

Unfortunately, the Republicans seized on this as a wedge issue, blew it up way out of proportion, used it to pick on a tiny minority of vulnerable people (the vast majority of whom aren't playing sports anyway), divided Democrats, and basically turned it into a shit show, which is what they do to win elections.
