In reply to the discussion: Gavin Newsom breaks with Democrats on trans athletes in sports [View all]ZRB
(465 posts)Thanks for the welcome, but I've been here immersed as a lurker for 21 years after a flurry of post-Kerry-loss commenting. I reached my breaking point and had to comment on certain threads recently, and now I'm into it again. My passions include rejecting antisemitism coming from our side, standing up against relentless Democrat-bashing from some in our tent, and advocating for politically-smart actions instead of fighting currently hopeless battles. I'm also in favor of saving the planet first and foremost, so we can still have these discussions about every other issue under the burning-hot sun.
I haven't defended any stripping of rights. I have suggested that in order to win, Democrats may have to take positions in line with the electorate we have, not the electorate we wish we had, to make an unfortunate paraphrase. Calling such Democrats and their supporters bigots will not win votes and the cause you're so passionately (and understandably) defending will be crushed for good. I'll add that taking positions is not the same as enacting policy.
