(24,486 posts)We took it all for granted, but who ever saw this coming and happening so quickly?
As a nation, I think we were guilty of national pride, believing the idea and ideals of America would ever die, that we weren't like other nations that rose and fell. But too many of us were complacent while the right worked for decades to attain their goals such as with Roe that those of us thought was a done deal, as safe as a Constitutional amendment--wrong!
We held our Founding Fathers with godlike respect which I would bet they would have said was a mistake. There were just things in the future they never could have anticipated.
It was a pretty good country while it lasted though. The first of my family came here from England nearly 400 years ago. I never thought it would be me in my generation that would see the end of a free America.
(I tend to be a pessimist, preparing and anticipating the worst so if something better happens I can be pleasantly surprised.)
