Democratic input in the CR?
The reason is probably not, because the Democrats have presented to the republicans in the Senate a proposal for a temporary extension to avoid a shut down, that would allow Democrats and republicans to work together on the CR.
The republicans rejected that
That leaves only two alternatives:
1. Allow cloture, and the republicans will pass the draconian CR.
2. Filibuster the bill, and the government will be shut down
If the government shuts down people will get hurt, and services will be curtailed however long the government stays shut down.
Will the republicans finally agree to compromise then? I don't think so. They are cult now. Since they have the majority what they probably will do is let the government stay shut down until the country starts to feel the pain, and crying for Congress to stop this nonsense.
Who will they blame?
The rethugs will of course blame the Democrats, and no doubt on the MSM and social media outlets exploit those platforms blaming the Democrats.
Can the Democrats exploit those same platforms with a clear concise message explaining just how bad the CR is, and why it would be necessary to modify the existing CR bill because it gives unfettered power to the executive branch that should solely be the responsibility of Congress.
I suspect that the people who depend on those service or paychecks won't care, they will just demand somehting will be done
Since republicans have the majority, what I could see happening is republicans saying they will come to the rescue, getting rid of the filibuster, and passing the draconian CR.
Then the question is, will the Democrats accomplish anything by not allowing Cloture?
