(69,850 posts)After the murder of George Floyd in 2020, and partly due to a recognition that COVID was affecting minority populations even more badly than it was affecting the white majority, because of long-time unequal access to health care, there was a DEI movement. It reached into the medical research field, but in a very mild way.
Beginning about four years ago, the NIH and other federal agencies started asking for assurances that research projects would make efforts to include women and minorities, both as researchers and as study participants. Private foundations did the same. The goal was to encourage more women and minorities in scientific research, where they've been discriminated against and their health needs overlooked.
Also, it is my opinion that some of the trans activist messaging has backfired.
It's mind boggling that anyone would perceive this as "extreme wokeness" and vote for Trump, but here we are.
