Happened to catch the end of a discussion about forcing SS applicants to visit offices or ID themselves online at the same time that offices are being closed on Jansing's show. Jeremy Peters and Jansing seemed to find the whole thing hilarious and were yucking it up with abandon, and Michael Steele even joined in. The segment ended with all three of them smiling broadly into the camera and laughing.
Not appropriate. I don't care if everything they said is technically true or if the coverage was more somber at the beginning of the segment. Laughing and joking while covering this life-or-death topic is offensive and an example of sanewashing.
Jeremy Peters is one of the original normalizers and sanewashers. I remember him during trump's first term laughing at fellow journalists who wanted more fact checking and imitating them by saying ,"but he's LYYYYING!" in a high pitched voice. He gave himself away years ago and I wish MSNBC would not have him on.
As far as this topic (the SS cuts) goes, I will watch Rachel tonight to get the real story without the shrieking laughter.
