Why don't we go back to the original intent of the 2nd amendment? [View all]

As passed by the Congress:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
As ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State:
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.[8]
What I propose:
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, every citizen who chooses to bear firearms should enlist in the modern day version of the militia -- a state guard, the national guard, or the coast guard -- and participate in monthly training sessions.

The Washington State Guard (WSG) is an all-volunteer unit organized under the Military Department of the State of Washington. Its members come from all walks of life. They normally serve without remuneration and meet monthly, or more often as needed, within organized units stationed at strategic locations throughout the State.
