(520 posts)I wouldn't bother being offended. It feels more like punching up than punching down. Hearing people called "illegal" really bothers me. I also detest when the news says "workers died..." when referring to people who died on the job.
When I think about generation after generation of people going back hundreds of years hearing racial slurs in their own free and equal country, their children and parents and grandparents and anyone else who looks like them, it's easy to understand tossing one back.
That's just how I feel, one old white girl from what I affectionately call "white land", where 96.7% self declared white on the last census just isn't white enough for them. And my kid's old high-school had a problem with a Trans kid a few years ago, what a way to make the news. Bigots are comfortable here.
