End of life health care is hugely expensive and labor intensive. I've been through it with both my and my wife's parents. All their financial planning went down the drain faster than you can believe. It's possible to extend life far beyond its natural span these days, and people opt to do that very often. Problem is that quality of life deteriorates to a horrendous degree if you try to delay death beyond a reasonable time.

As we all grow older, we need to take those things into consideration for ourselves. Plan for it before you are no longer able to make plans. If you don't, your children and grandchildren will have to make those decisions. It's a horrible burden to place on their shoulders, frankly.

Hard to think about, yes, but essential.
