(25,406 posts)I remember 1980 quite clearly, it was thought that Reagan was a fool who could never get nominated, elected, or re-elected, much less groom an heir apparent that kept the White House for another four years, which might have been another eight years if Iraq's invasion of Kuwait had come a bit later than it did.
However, we have been waiting for a ruinous fight between the establishment Republicons and the tea partiers, and this is what it is starting to look like. The best we can do is try to get our friends in the caucus states to come out heavily for Ron Paul, to deny either of these bozos a first ballot victory. The very best thing that can happen is for one side to blame the other for stealing the nomination, that's the divide and conquer we need.
If Romney got coronated after Florida, he would have many months to make nice with the tea party and the fundies, and that wouldn't have worked to our advantage.
