is campaigning on. Affordability.
I live in GA now. I knew I could never be able to afford a home when I left several years ago. Since living in GA, I've bought 2 homes. Sold the first one, moved to FL, then moved back to GA and bought another one. The housing market is not what it used to be in GA anymore, but still beats NY in leaps and bounds in terms of affordability.
It was disheartening to hear Gov Hochul say that she does not intend to raise taxes on the wealthy. This is the disconnect that is driving younger folks.
Her excuse was she doesn't want to raise taxes on anyone and raising taxes on the wealthy might force them to move to Palm Beach.
I like Gov Hochul a lot. But that is not going to sit well with the folks struggling.
While you are saying you don't want wealthy folks, leaving, I am guessing she was referring to not wanting businesses to leave, everyday NYers are leaving and moving to other places because they cannot afford to live in NY.
One of the reasons GA turned blue a few cycles ago, more purple now I guess - is that so many NYers live here now.
Saying you don't want to raise taxes out of fear that wealthy people may leave is not a winning message.
I am not going to beat up on Gov Hochul. I like her. But my point is, the affordability message is a winning message for many NYers and if you've never lived in NY, I don't think you get how serious the housing issue is.
I have never known anyone in NY that lived alone. It is too expensive. Most people live with family or have room mates. If you live alone, it is in a tiny box that you still pay an arm, a leg and your whole damn body for.
Cuomo needs to do the right thing and just go away. Democratic politicians need to stop trying to malign Mamdani. It is disgusting.
