just did this with wife's account. walked in local participating USPS office. person scanned bar code we had printed out from online. checked her state id which is a never expiring one and scanned that. went home, waited until next day and was approved.

was very easy after many struggles trying to get her online with SS account.

so far, I haven't been asked to come up with picture id when I log in. I have had the gov log in for years though.
