...voters that will actually show up--and hopefully bring in some new voters. Yes, the Big BS Bill is unpopular today, but by next week it will feel like six months of news has gone by and most Americans will not even remember it ever happened. This is something that the Rs know well--and they exploit it.
The only thing most people will remember about the legislation will be the lies that the Orange Abomination will endlessly tell--every damn day. By the time we get to NEXT November too many people will be convinced that electing Democrats will mean a tax increase for their family and that the immigrants will take over their town again--even though they never took it over in the first place. That is all the Republicans need to sell, and it is pretty easy to sell fear.
Democrats are going to have to learn to counter simple lies with simple truths--not endless numbers--12 million this; 20 million that; one-in-five whatever.... People do not connect with numbers. You have to talk to people about their own situation--not the situation of millions of people they do not believe they even know.
And they must hammer the simple truths home day-in and day-out on all forms of media they can get or buy time on. The Administration will throw so many distractions out there every day to knock Democrats off their message--a tactic that has worked well so far. But Dems have to learn to never relent on their core messages to get voters into their column.
And I would also put forth that it can't be a message that the government is going to fix everything if you just elect Democrats. Most people--even Democrats--don't actually trust the government. It will take time to get back to where people trust the government enough for those kinds of solutions. The spirit of the Constitution should inform us as to our direction. When the very thing that actually made America is being undermined so blatantly under the guise of making America great "again," its power as a founding document needs to be front-and-center in the effort to get America back to the values that actually make America the beautiful, flawed, contradictory, land of opportunity it once was.
