1. For two years now, both grocery stores near me and hardware store had stacks of auto wiper fluid at $2.99/gallon

Always... not a sale, and as far as I know, it is just a simple production process produced in several places across the US. Well, the other day, I saw a man washing his windshield with (dilute?) isopropyl alcohol--which would help melt ice in the winter, but does a hellacious impact on the rubber sealings around the windshield under summer's hot sun, so I asked him about it. He told me that wiper fluid was now $3.99/gallon and that, having run short on his groceries this month, he just couldn't afford that.

That is infuriating... 33% increase--for what? It is mostly water to begin with.
