In most parts of the world, life expectancy is increasing. Globally extreme poverty has decreased, indoor air pollution has decreased, literacy increased, access to safe water, global famine deaths have dropped dramatically.

And compared to what time in the past have we had more democracies, better health systems, same sex, minority and women's rights around the world? The U.S. is definitely sliding some, but overall, when would you think was better even here? The 1960s when black people were being clubbed for trying to vote and women couldn't have a bank account without their husband?

Is everything perfect? Of course not, but for all the flaws in the world, it's still better than the past.
