What a run Johnny Carson had! A job that kept him at the top for roughly 30 years. And for many of those years he went for 90 minutes a night. 11:30pm to 1am, five nights a week. He kept many of Americas insomniacs good and friendly company for all that time. Steady and lots of laughs, and didnt mind at all when the laughs were on him. I worked at NBC back then and there were many who spoke of him in hushed tones. I heard at one point back then that his Tonight show was generating one quarter of the networks entire revenue every year.
Sorry. Im spoiled. When Rachel Maddow bailed after 10 years, I felt jilted. Im still trying to be sympathetic but Im not getting very far in that effort.
