Mother, father arrested after 11-year-old child gave birth at home without medical care [View all]
MUSKOGEE, Okla. (WKRC) - A mother and father were accused of neglecting their 11-year-old daughter after she gave birth at home without any medical care, with the parents claiming they didn't know the child was pregnant.
According to court documents obtained by local outlet Fox 23, the child had been pregnant for 36 weeks when she gave birth to a full-term child in her family's home on Aug. 16. Despite this, the girl's parents, 34-year-old Dustin Walker and 3-year-old Cherie Walker, claimed that they didn't know the 11-year-old was pregnant.
Additionally, the court documents allegedly said the child hadn't been to the doctor in over a year, and received no prenatal care for her pregnancy. Authorities became aware of the Walkers and their daughter after they took her to the hospital upon giving birth, per local outlet KJRH.
"I was horror-stricken to find out it’s an 11-year-old little girl who’s given birth," said Assistant District Attorney Janet Hutson. "She had no medical care, and she had no one to be with her."
