(71 posts)Is abortion legal in Oklahoma?
If not, are there any exceptions?
Because as tragic as this story is, (with the prosecutor even making a statement about how upsetting it is) isn't the outcome here more or less what many of the red states are enacting laws to force this exact outcome?
The girl was raped, probably for years. But if she had been taken to a doctor earlier would she (or her legal guardian, the mom, who was an accessory to the abuse most likely) have been able to terminate the pregnancy?
And if the law in Oklahoma doesn't allow abortion, is the father of the child, her rapist, guaranteed any custody rights? And the 11 year old new mother? Would she still be taken out of her parents' home by CPS? It's a tragedy that turns into a worse injustice for kids like this in red states.
And then the assistant district attorney continues to lament about the thought of this poor girl, giving birth at home, "she had no medical care" . Again, isn't what they Republicans feel is acceptable policy?
It's absolutely disgusting that some state legislators try to find a way to pass laws to force this exact outcome! Every single person in the article and every single person in the comments had no confusion in determining that this is a sad and heartbreaking story.
But the Republican party doesn't lose sleep worrying about young abused girls. They prove it with their actions over and over and over.
