(3,712 posts)Your idea about state social security does appeal to me, though there is the practical problem that the money we have paid in all our lives is stuck in the federal system. Republicans would happily pocket that money while we start from scratch. It would take a long time for benefits to build up to what we are used to.
Losing all the people like you in red states also hurts us in the long run. How do we turn states purple if states are turning bluer and redder, respectively. It's like the gerrymandered districts turning more one or the other. It ends up being less representative and you get more radical politicians who only worry about primaries. In the past states have evolved, but that would end, and leave us chronically short by a couple of states in the Senate and the electoral college.
