(687 posts)As I mentioned they both appeared to be getting better. We were thinking they were on the road to recovery. We came out one morning and it was obvious one had taken a sudden sharp turn for the worse overnight. That was on a Friday. Vets around here are always booked up. We tried to get an appointment but nothing was available until Monday. That Cat passed away Saturday morning. The second Cat got bad by Saturday morning and was gone by Monday morning. Tessie and Smoki, both beautiful Siamese. Smoki was Tessie's daughter. Smoki was probably the prettiest Cat I've ever seen and not even a year old. Her brother Snowbie survived somehow and never appeared sick. He is still with us and as cute as ever.
Whatever took them did it in less than 2 weeks.
Week one
Mild symptoms, a bit of Eye redness conjunctivitis, otherwise acting normal and eating
Week two
Seemed to be recovering, eating normally, conjunctivitis easing
End of Week two
Sudden hard turn, eyes watering profusely, not eating, extreme lethargy, gone in 2 days
We have indoor Cats also and have seen similar symptoms as week one, all recovered just fine so we didn't think it was anything serious during the first period. The indoor Cats never go outside. The change with Tessie and Smoki was overnight and sudden.
If anyone reading this has Cats who are indoor/outdoor or outdoor watch them closely if you see similar symptoms. All I can assume is that one of them caught and consumed an infected bird and shared or passed it to the other assuming it was actually bird flu. We'll never know for sure.
