(5,389 posts)Even unsubscribing only slowed the tidal wave of emails, many of them from states I have never been to. A few years back another site I used to spend a lot of time on would run a request to donate to several candidates simultaneously. Even though I got banned from that site years ago they still send me requests for money almost daily. I have no idea if they or some of those candidates "shared" my information. Until the last few months I only received a couple of emails a day from random candidates or causes.
But I started getting 75-100 emails a day. Unsubscribing helped some, but only for a few days.
So for family, banking, etc. I just abandoned that old email. Protonmail has free email.
Now, however, I have started to get phone calls and texts. I'm not sure how they got my phone number. Here in Florida everyone gets a couple of spam calls a day. Maybe that is a countrywide thing now. But at least one or two a day are identifiable as Democratic politicians, groups, or causes.
I never answer for unknown callers, and never empty my messages, so it isn't a major issue yet, but I wonder if my phone number will have to be changed like my email.
And, if I was a Republican who wanted to trash the Democratic small donor fundraising system what I would do is spread emails and phone numbers far and wide so that people would stop responding.
Ironically, I have very little to give now that I'm retired.
