I think the SC is with Trump because the majority, all Federalist picks, have the same goals. Ie it is not Trump as much as right wing goals.
Congress is different. Many might be afraid to challenge Trump for fear that he could cause them to lose a primary. The question might be whether Vance inherits that ability.
On one hand, he is certainly not charismatic. One warning might be that he might be able to use the base's grief from losing Trump to push them for support. (There are so many differences - ie LBJ's many years in Congressional leadership, skill, and the genuine shock of losing a young leader to assignation - but LBJ was able to get many things like Civil rights legislation partly in honor of JFK)
