(4,162 posts)but based on House Republicans' fealty to Trump,
and their dedication to judging 'the rule of law' based upon partisanship,
I'd have to consider it unlikely to happen---
until Democrats take back the House in 2026!
And we WILL, regardless of the GQP's gerrymandering desperation tactics!
But unless a lot of Senate Republicans experience a 'come to Jesus' moment,
conviction is very unlikely....
HOWEVER, Trump re-wrote presidential impeachment history in 2021,
when for the first time in U.S. history, some members of the U.S. Senate voted to convict
a president of their own party....
In every previous Senate trial
of an impeached (charged) President,
the Senate vote had always been strictly upon party lines....
but in the (2nd) 2021 impeachment trial against Trump, six GOP senators voted to convict him. That made history.
All of this is in stark contrast to the Nixon era---
where a large group of Republican congressional members met with him to
urge him to RESIGN from the office, which he did, before the full House even had the chance
to vote on impeachment (but the House Judiciary committee had voted to advance the charges against Nixon)
(Back when there was still a shred of honor among congressional Republicans....)
((and Trump has already gone far beyond Nixon's crimes....hell, he's a convicted f*cking FELON
before he even got elected again!))
