You can see with the serial killers they get better each time they commit the crime.
You can see the progression and learning curve.

Early in my career I worked with the police and courts so I got interested in crime
scene investigation. One of my fellow students in grad school was an expert on serial killers
and talked about them in almost every class. So I learned a bit about the criminal mentality.

The Kirk shooter made a good shot, skill and luck.
And got a clean quick getaway.

So he is not stupid.
The gun with prints and the pictures were stupid.
