quotation along the lines of, "so long we we keep voting for what we don't want, we'll keep getting it."

Voting for the lesser evil seemed to me like the best strategy for a long time, and in the short run I believe it is; but in the long run, I believe it's led to a race to the bottom, since each candidate need only seem a tiny bit better and/or a tiny bit more electable than the others in order to end up in the final race.

In the longer run, voting for the primary candidate whose platform and record are actually closest to what we want helps to push the party and the Overton Window in the direction we want.
