In reply to the discussion: Well, I'm back from my cruise and [View all]Liberal In Texas
(15,919 posts)31. That was interesting, eye-opening.
The last cruise I was on was in the 80s on the SS Norway the former SS France. Quite a large ship in its time but nothing like now with these behemoth Vegas Hotels on a hull. Then there was nobody using those scooters. There was, of course, lots of drinking and the worst alcohol incident was the onboard entertainer Freddy Fender getting kicked off the ship by the captain for getting drunk and harassing at least one woman passenger.
Even though it was refitted for cruising, it still had the elegance of the old ocean liners. Now I wouldn't think of sailing on one of these tacky glitzy floating circuses. Your OP has reinforced feeling I wouldn't enjoy it these days.

It's been twenty years since I've been on a cruise. The number one reason is because I try to eat healthily.

There are gates and guards around the White House but they fail to contain the inmates.

I have never been on a cruise, and never will be on one most probably, but to me, I don't have to go anywhere to be...

That sounds like my idea of Hell, although the getting-away part is tempting.

I've been on several cruises and haven't seen that many people on scooters.

Interesting post. I've never had a desire to take a cruise like the one you describe. Too many people.
