(5,092 posts)I don't understand this compulsion, every time a Republican behaves in a positive way, for DUers to trot out the list of every bad thing they've ever done in their life.
Yes, they're a bad person who has done bad things. We all know this. But we need to create incentives for them to do what we want them to do. That's how we persuade people and turn this train wreck around. Positive reinforcement works at least 20 times as well for learning as negative reinforcement. And we can't do that if every time a Republican pops their head above the surface and does something brave speaking out against their team, we then pile on to remind them of what a piece of shit they are otherwise.
Noting that MTG is right for once and agrees with me doesn't mean I'm endorsing her entire worldview or excusing the terrible shit she has done in the past. It just means that on this one thing she's showing promise of coming around to the right opinion. We have to be able to let people do that or they will keep digging in. Save the pile on for the issues and opinions where they are still wrong.
