I just watched a portion of his ignoration, and I've seen several interviews with him.
I think that if he ultimately performs as mayor, and if he were to aspire to the position, he could be president someday. I'm not sure if it can happen in many of our lifetimes, but maybe. (Edit: I just found out he was not born in the US....sorry. But my opinion on his characteristics, and what it would take to turn this country around, still stand).
He has beliefs that are controversial to many in this country, and he states those beliefs unapologetically. He answers questions directly and forcefully, with a smile. He is quick with his answers, which means he believes what he is saying.
I think what would have to happen...
This country is continuing to spiral downward, and honestly, I do not see that ending anytime soon. I think there will come a point where pretty much EVERYONE in this country is going to feel like they were kicked in the nuts, and it will be undeniable.
And if we get to that point, when EVERYONE has had enough because it has hurt them personally, then people will be ready. Perhaps when many of the old MAGATs start dying off. Maybe when everyone has someone in their family who died from lack of healthcare.
Epstein isn't going to changed the hearts of those locked in the bubble. Nothing will. Until they feel like they were fucked personally.
I thought it would clear up after President Biden. It didn't. One of the best, if not THE best president of my lifetime, and it didn't happen. A giant of a man. A kind soul. A good heart. A brilliant politician who accomplished great things...and it still didn't happen.
There will come a day when the words "democratic socialist" are not mocked, and that day might happen sooner than we think, if Mamdani unquestionably performs.
I had these same early feelings when I first knew of President Obama, but for different reasons.
I know many here will disagree with me, but this is how I feel at the moment.
One more thing...remember that Mamdani was able to charm the devil in the Oval Office. He made Trump look small. And he did it with a smile.
