(4,847 posts)to a discussion by an Episcopalian priest-on the male-female aspects of god. i reluctantly agreed to go with her. i got the shock of my life, listening to this man suggesting books like eisner's book on the feminine religious influence. and he stated that when he needed to find solace, compassion, empathy, he prayed to the female aspect of the creator; and when he needed some form of resolution, determination, he prayed to the male aspect of the creator. at the time, i thought, this is so different from the OT vengeance god persona.
for thousands of years, the human race has given their gods, goddesses attributes of human emotions-greed, vengeance, jealousy, love, compassion. it is humans who determine what they create to worship, and it is humans who lay the blame on their god for whatever obscene, heinous crime they commit-that god that was made in their image.
i think you're caught up in the societal perception of "male" and "female" personas. men can be gentle nurturers and women can be cold blooded killers. but, society tends to allocate certain characteristics to the sexes, not all is true. i'd say, it was more so thousands of years ago.
