We use the 2.5K Wyze cameras to monitor properties (available on Amazon and on the Wyze website). The 2.5K camera has excellent resolution and can be programmed for tracking movement and humans in particular. Our cameras are mounted indoors on a window where you zoom and check recorded segments as needed (realize quite a few cameras do this with ease). We also have one mounted inside a clock indoors (not obvious in the slightest). The cameras all have two-way communication and sirens that can be activated as needed.

Even if you do not have a dog, consider putting up a sign suggesting you have a dog (we used to do this too). You do not have to play by the rules with these folks. You could also electrify things for an added measure. We have an electric fence to deal with feral pigs at our property. But it seems to work well with humans who have no idea which parts of the fence are electrified. You could electrify a doorknob just like a fence too (grounded by the person who touches it).
