13. First, Ben has an Oscar that he won as a writer at age 24. Golden Globe to go with it.

Take a look at that. 1997 he won best screenplay and was instantly the 'flavor of the month' in showbiz. Ben always wanted to direct, but did not actually helm a film until 2007- he waited a decade for his skills to be ready. This should tell a wise observer a few things about his personality.
Neither Ben nor Matt Damon has said they were going to run for any office. Others mention the idea because it makes good sense. One or both of them might in future, and either would get my vote. Neither would take on such a duty lightly, nor unprepared, nor distracted by outside career interests.
I do agree that Lincoln will sweep the Oscars, and as much as I like Ben I admire Kushner, who is my favorite author of plays and whose nomination delights me beyond compare....
