This Homeschooling Law in Connecticut Protects Kids. Republicans Hate It. -Friendly Atheist [View all]

Jun 10, 2026
Connecticut's new homeschooling law asks parents to fill out a simple form and says adults under investigation for child abuse or neglect can't suddenly pull their kids out of school while those allegations are being examined.

Any reasonable person would see that as basic child protection. But Republican lawmakers, Christian homeschooling activists, and conservative groups have launched a full-scale panic campaign, claiming the law is an assault on parental rights.

In reality, the legislation was prompted by horrific cases involving homeschooled children and closes a loophole that allowed vulnerable kids to disappear from public view.
