When we were first married, we fell for some people who came into our home (However, they were friends from church selling vacuum cleaners, water softeners, financial services, etc though, not door-to-door.. We would see them at church and they would invite themselves over other pretenses like "getting together for coffee".) It was a real pain. Basically, after that type of pitch, they were no longer our "friends". We cut them off. We were Catholic, but even in that circle there were also charismatic Catholics, who pull the same stuff with religion.

We were never scammed. Just wasted our time....
