10. Newt's on his own right now, without the ability to restrict access

Newt HAS History and a severe penchant to evoke visceral reactions due to his harsh personality.

The media is giving him a reach around because their too lame to function independently. Plus, at some level, it's a pathetic way to hedge their bets on all the Klowns. Newtons is no different that any of them.

Bush literally had now history before he stole the White House the first time. Once he got in there, his incumbency had him burrowed in like a tick.

Once he eviscerated some legitimate journalists for actually telling the truth, the rest of them fell right in line.

Newt is is own worst enemy… I doubt that even they can save him from his damn self.
