(14,058 posts)I don't interpret it the way you do. It looks to me like they find the insulin and they start to act like "oh shit." Now, the laughter at the end? It's disgusting, but it also sounds nervous, like somebody who knows he screwed up trying to break up a terrible sinking feeling.
The whole incident was ugly, incompetent, and disgusting. The way it looks to me is that the first cop started the ball rolling by responding poorly. He was scared and saw some guy acting disoriented and oddly and parked in an intersection. The cop interpreted the parked man's behavior as a threat instead of what it was, a medical emergency. For all he knew, the cop could have been dealing with an armed paranoid schizophrenic.
Should the cop have taken things a bit slower, calmed down, and assessed the situation from other angles? Sure. But maybe he is relatively new or not cut out to be a cop. Or maybe the guy in the car looked like he was fishing in his pockets for something (his insulin or, as the cop might think, a gun).
The other cops took their cue from the first. It became scared and angry cops forcibly subduing someone when who didn't need to be forcibly subdued.
These cops know they are on video, by the way. This was a very bad mistake committed by people who were scared and imperfect. And again, it says nothing about police in general.
