(2,117 posts)I kind of understand your point, and for most of the "old white men", it's true. But it's not because they are "old white men", it's because of how they individually act towards others. Joe Biden is warm-hearted and strikes you as someone who would be genuinely interested in having a conversation with you, no matter what background you come from. Now, the stereotype for "old white men" politicians is something like Mitch McConnell, who strikes me as someone who would feel insulted and call security if anyone outside of his circle of cronies walked into his office.
It's not about age, race, gender, or anything, it's about the person's personality. Ronald Reagan was considered to be a successful political figure to the right in part because he had a grandfatherly feel to many. A lot of people trusted him and still believe to this day he could do no wrong, even though his policies are in part what led to the recent financial troubles. Looking at the state of the American electorate, an "old white man" who possesses charisma similar to Reagan's could definitely be elected. Mitt Romney was pretty old for a Presidential candidate and he still came within 5 points of winning the election, despite the fact that he made blunder after blunder in his campaign and he had the charisma of a robot.
